Abstract:
Historiska museet har just öppnat en ny basutställning FORNTIDER. Den ska ses mot
bakgrund av att museet under en följd av år har försökt att bryta mot de starka konventioner
som finns i tankegodset kring museet och dess utställningar. Utbrytningsförsöken från den
traditionella forntidsbildens tvångströja har varit starka. Men det är svårt att omsätta teori i
praktik. Plötsligt tystnade debatten. Beror det på att Forntider är ointressant? Eller har
utställningen löst alla problem? Var är debatten? Låt Forntider bli startpunkten för en
fördjupad diskussion om museernas bilder av vår forntid.

On the criticism of exhibitions, self-reflexion and relevance to society
The Museum of National Antiquities has just opened a new permanent
exhibition, ’FORNTIDER’ (Prehistories). The museum has for a long time
worked with breaking out of the conventions associated with the museum and its exhibitions.
These efforts have beeen strong. However, turning theory into practice is difficult, and
suddenly all the debates have stopped. Is the reason for this change to be searched for in the
new exhibition? Is it less interesting to the public or the scientific audience, and has it solved
all problems? Where is the debate to be found? Let the exhibition ’Forntider’ trigger further
discussions on museum images of the past.
